Julia Curtain
Telecommunications Project Engineer, Wood & Grieve Engineers
Eager to begin her engineering career, Julia began working as an undergrad at Arup. After graduating in November 2007, she started as a graduate ICT Engineer at SKM (now Jacobs). In mid-2016, she accepted a role as a Senior Telecommunications Engineer at Wood and Grieve Engineers.
She has undertaken roles in engineering design, commissioning, workshop facilitation, project management and committee membership. In both technical and management roles, she is focused on client satisfaction and team cohesion and development. These, together with her attention to detail, ensure that the projects she delivers exceed client expectations resulting in strengthened relationships within the project team and with the client.
She is passionate about engaging and retaining care-givers in the workforce. She believes that you cannot be what you do not see, and as such is committed to being a positive role model and advocate for diversity and flexibility in the workforce. Throughout her study and career, she has not met anyone who has managed to excel in their engineering career whilst remaining a stay-at-home parent. So she decided to forge this path herself with the support of her manager, her workplace and family. WGE have enabled her to work from home, bring her children into the office and on site, and work unorthodox hours. This has not only kept her career alive whilst being a mother, but rather thrive, as shown in her recent promotion to Project Engineer.
